What Is An Auxiliary Port? Get to know your sound system

What does Auxiliary Port (AUX) mean?

An Auxiliary port (AUX) is an asynchronous serial port, it has an interface which has the ability to deliver auxiliary input of audio signal, and it is an additional audio input method for:

  • Speakers
  • Amplifiers
  • Music players
  • Headphones
  • MP3 players

What is the AUX port used for in cars?

The car Aux port is a communication port as the name suggests. The communication port is there to help the user to interact with the audio signals.

The Auxiliary port is specifically used for audio devices such as audio speakers or digital music players. The other names used for auxiliary ports are auxiliary input and auxiliary jack.

If we talk about the current generation, the generation who can’t breathe, without the quality of sound. The first thing we ask before driving is “do you have aux cable in your car?” or “give me the aux cable”. So, the aux is very important to the true audiophile.

We can’t really guess whether someone is going to rock the journey with some of the best Hollywood or with English music. Everyone loves the rich bass and the best quality of sound.

What’s more? The time of car aux port is slowly declining because of the introduction of the latest technologies. The decline started when the master company Apple introduced the concept of no headphone jack. After removing the jack, this company introduced the Bluetooth technology called Air pods.

Everyone looks for ease these days, when Bluetooth technology came, everyone started using it to listen to their personal favorite tunes, this technology-enhanced the listening experience of the users. Though it is a little less reliable than plugging a wire into a jack, yet it is very easy and convenient to use.

The Aux cable takes a massive part in controlling the audio units in our vehicles. People who love music, have memories with the AUX cable, when on long journeys.

“Pass the cable” and everyone used to play their favorite tunes. One person with a good playlist used to make other fellows happy by connecting the AUX with the cell phone.

Everything is going towards importance, same is the scenario with the technology, with Bluetooth technology you have connected your phone to the Bluetooth featured device and after successfully establishing the connection you can play your favorite tunes and take your music listening experience to the next level.

Talking about the price of the AUX cables, well, they are not too costly. The AUX cables are available from various manufacturers and if you still buy an AUX cable from a trusted brand, then you can use it for a long period of time without worrying about any damage and you can easily buy an AUX cable without tearing a hole in your wallet.

Bluetooth technology is being used in most vehicles these days, people mostly play their favorite tunes or they listen to the calls while driving using Bluetooth connectivity, the reason why Bluetooth technology became so famous is that it solved the big problems of the users by providing them a secure and safe connection.

Everything these days is going towards wireless technology and people love hands-free calling. That is one of the biggest reasons that the AUX technology is replaced by the latest Bluetooth technology.

Is AUX and headphone jack the same?

If we talk about the build type of the aux connector and the headphone jack, then its most likely the same that is 3.5mm (1/8”) TRS. The headphone as the name suggests is only made for headphones and is only suited for headphones on the other if we talk about the aux (auxiliary connector) it is made universally for audio

What is an auxiliary input socket in a car?

An auxiliary-in or the aux-in socket in your vehicle is a 3.55m jack. By using this jack you can plug anything that is compatible with the standard headphone connection. It allows the user to stream the music from any device by using the speakers of the car and it sends the sound to the multimedia audio unit of your vehicle so that you can enjoy favorite beats.

How do you use an auxiliary port in a car?

Use the following steps to use the aux port in your car:

Connect your cell phone device to the aux port of your vehicle by using a 1/8-inch-to-1/8-inch audio cable. Connect one end of the audio cable to the aux port and the opposite end of the cable to the port that is made for headphones in your mobile.

Hit the Aux button on your vehicle stereo’s system. You can also select the AUX input by toggling the input button on your car’s stereo system.

Is Aux better than USB?

If you are using an old car, home theater, old sound system, record player, or a device where there is no digital interface or USB port, then in such a scenario an AUX cable is a preferred choice. The USB ports are more convenient to use from the user’s perspective, and as everything is improving with time so these days almost everyone uses the USB, as they have the ability to deliver better sound quality, but they can only be used in digital systems.

Does USB to AUX work?

Well, it is true that the USB-to-aux cables do exist in the market and they work for the specific purpose they are designed for. But, they don’t work as a channel for the files of digital music to the radio of your car. In addition, if you plug a USB-to-aux cable into a USB thumb drive and then plug that cable into the head unit of your car, what you notice after doing all of this, is that nothing will happen.

How do I get my aux cord to work?

Connect your cell phone device to the aux port of your vehicle by using a 1/8-inch-to-1/8-inch audio cable. Connect one end of the audio cable to the aux port and the opposite end of the cable to the port that is made for headphones in your mobile.

Hit the Aux button on your vehicle stereo’s system. You can also select the AUX input by toggling the input button on your car’s stereo system.
